Hi all,

Sounds like there's certainly interest. I don't presume to be in charge but am happy to help host a virtual planning meeting and people can raise their hands to help.

Things to consider

Dates: I'd propose a poll to get feedback about which dates work best. Historically, mid-to-late summer has been the most popular time to gather.

Locations:

Highland High School: Due to COVID-19, the school is not taking any reservations before January.

Sugar House Park Pavilion reservations can be made March 1st, 2021.

Event Type/s: formal, informal, dinner, picnic, drinks & snacks, family-friendly, alumni only, alumni + 1, etc.

The reunions scheduled for this summer were all virtual with class members submitting updates on Facebook Groups, etc. and other virtual-type gatherings. Hopefully, we'll be able to have some kind of event(s) in person by 2021.

I'll find a polling tool and post a few dates so we can get preferences.

Let's plan on a virtual brainstorming/planning meeting on Thursday, Sept 17th 7 pm MT. I'll post a link in a separate message.

Thanks!

Hi all.

Thanks to all those who participated in our Survey last month! The results are in!

Most popular date for a reunion: Aug 6-7

Top 2 preferred activity types (based on Most Likely Attend + Definitely Would Attend) are:

Alumni Only Event

Casual Dinner Event

We've got a list of people willing to volunteer and can always use more. Watch for an official Save the Date in January 2021.

We'd planned a follow-up meeting for Thurs, Oct 22, 2020, which has been moved to Thursday, Nov 5, 2020, 7pm on Zoom.

We've challenged all those who attended the last meeting to invite 1 friend - the more the merrier! I'll send this by email as well. Hope to see you there!

Amy Johnson is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Hello!

I just received the below "Sub for Santa" message and link from Dean Collett and the Highland High Helping Hands Community.  Please spread the word and consider participating.  I hope everyone is well and has a great holiday season!

Dear HHS Class President

I am writing to ask for your and your class’ help.  Currently, about half of Highland’s students fall below the poverty line, there are 120 refugee and more than 30 homeless children attending Highland.  These students are part of the Ram family, and they need help.  I am asking you to forward the attached video to the members of your class.  Highland’s alumni have the potential to change lives, and now is the time for alumni to rally to the cause.  Alumni can view the video link and then follow the link in the video to donate online to help provide food, clothing, hygiene products, school supplies and technology to these members of the Ram Fam.  Won’t you please assist me in getting the word out to your fellow Rams?

Dean Collett

Very cool.  I had no idea Dean was still alive!

Had the exact same thought as Chris. Just looked it up, he's 92. Thanks for sharing. Making a donation now.

For those with old eyes like me, I'm re-posting the link at the end of the video. The link is to the Salt Lake education foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, where you can make a direct donation. https://www.saltlakeeducationfoundation.org/get-involved/online-donation/

Ps. Did you spot the child of Ben Haslam? (Eric?)

Go Rams!

The Pantry at Highland High is a great resource for all students at Highland. Yes, that was my second oldest son, Eric, in the video.  My youngest son, Jake, is currently helping in the Pantry this year.  It is Mike Flitton's sister, Mindy Smith, who runs it, along with a lot of help from her family and other alumni.

The Pantry, besides food and clothing, provides various hygiene items along formal dresses and suits for the students for dances and job interviews.

We should also give Chris Meldrum, and his wife Jen, a co-founder, a huge shout out for their their work at Porch Durham. Go take a look at what they have done for nearly 10 years.

https://durham.porchcommunities.org/about/

Since March they have raised over $103,000 in emergency grocery gift cards.

Go Rams!

PS. Sorry to hijack the reunion thread.

Awesome work, all. By the way, when I saw that video I emailed Dean and he called me yesterday. Seemed well and happy. Said to give his best to anyone who might see the message.

Our big 30-year fundraiser - the Highland Pantry

Next year we will have a smaller reunion but want to make a big difference.

The reunion committee is trying to craft some plans for a reunion next summer, but with all of the uncertainty around COVID-19, it is likely to be simpler, less formal and incorporate more virtual elements.

But we want to go big in terms of making a difference for Highland High.  Rather than donating to build a new sign or monument in front of the school, we would like to start building momentum for donations to support the low-income, homeless or food-insecure students at Highland.

https://www.saltlakeeducationfoundation.org/get-involved/online-donation/

Our goal is to get 100% of our class to donate at least $25!  We can do this!

You are going to hear a lot of urges and pleas to donate between now and next summer.  If you donate now, think how good you will feel all year!

When you donate, please note that the gift is a tribute to the Highland Class of 1991 (see below).

You can learn more about the program at https://highland.slcschools.org/community/family-support/index.php

LOOK AT THE MENU TO THE LEFT TO FILL OUT THE SURVEY.  JUST BELOW MISSING CLASSMATES AND JUST ABOVE MEMBER FUNCTIONS IS THE RAMS '91 WHERE ARE THEY NOW SURVEY.  I SHOULD CHANGE THE NAME TO    30 QUESTIONS FOR 30 YEARS. SO IT'S MORE OBVIOUS.

Girl Scout Troop/Class of 1991:

Kami Redd, Amy Bergstead, Lisa Weilmann, Emma Claudio, Liz Kenney, Michelle Cordray (?), Tiffany Cupid (deceased),

I know we didn't all graduate from Highland, but I would LOVE to schedule a time to have a little Girl Scout reunion.  I have been thinking about this for years and well, then life and then COVID.  My heart breaks that Tiffany is gone.  I feel like I read something about Michelle also having passed.  Can anyone confirm?

Are you going to be around for the 30 year reunion or for any other reason? Shoot me an email and we can see if/when it is possible!

Hi Sonya,

My mother has remained close friends with Michelle's mom all these years, and says that she is well and living in New York.  I'll find out if her contact info is available.

Hope that helps.

Dave
